What is BEG nasal spray?
A compounded nasal spray combining mupirocin (Bactroban), EDTA and gentamicin, prescribed for chronic sinus infections, often after sinus surgery.
At Pharmacy on the Park, BEG nasal spray is compounded in our pharmacy from a prescription, in the strength and form your prescriber orders.
How does it work?
EDTA helps break up bacterial biofilms, the protective layers bacteria form in the sinuses, so the antibiotics mupirocin and gentamicin can reach the bacteria.
What is it used for?
A compounded nasal spray combining mupirocin (Bactroban), EDTA and gentamicin, prescribed for chronic sinus infections, often after sinus surgery. Your prescriber determines the use, dose and monitoring.
How is it used?
- Nasal spray. Nasal sprays are primed before first use and sprayed into each nostril as directed.
Follow the directions on your label. The strength, amount and schedule are set by your prescriber.
Side effects and safety
Commonly reported: Nasal stinging, burning or irritation, and occasional nosebleeds. Call your prescriber or us about any reaction that concerns you.
Who should use caution?
People allergic to mupirocin or aminoglycoside antibiotics such as gentamicin. Use only as long as directed and follow up with your prescriber. Share your full medical history and medication list with your prescriber.
How should it be stored?

This combination isn’t sold as a single commercial product. Compounding lets us put the ingredients together in one preparation, in the exact strengths and ratio your prescriber orders, so there are fewer separate medications to take or apply.
