At Pharmacy on the Park, Sildenafil is compounded in our pharmacy from a prescription, in the strength and form your prescriber orders.
How does it work?
Blocks PDE5, an enzyme that narrows blood vessels, which improves blood flow in the penis and lungs.
What is it used for?
Erectile dysfunction and topical sexual-health creams in people; pulmonary hypertension in dogs and cats. Your prescriber determines the use, dose and monitoring.
How is it used?
- Capsule. Capsules are swallowed by mouth. For pets, a capsule can often be hidden in a small treat if your veterinarian agrees.
- Tablet. Tablets are taken by mouth as directed on your label.
- Cream. Creams are applied to the area your prescriber directs. Metered dispensers such as Topi-CLICK® deliver the same amount each time. Wash your hands after applying.
- Flavored oral suspension. Flavored suspensions are shaken well and measured with the oral syringe we provide, then given by mouth.
- Troche. Troches are placed between the cheek and gum and allowed to dissolve slowly. Avoid eating or drinking until fully dissolved.
- Oral liquid. Oral liquids are shaken well and measured with the oral syringe we provide.
Follow the directions on your label. The strength, amount and schedule are set by your prescriber.
Side effects and safety
Commonly reported: Headache, flushing, nasal congestion, low blood pressure. Do not combine with nitrates. Call your prescriber or us about any reaction that concerns you.
Who should use caution?
Anyone taking nitrates for chest pain or certain blood pressure medicines, and people with severe heart disease or very low blood pressure. Share your full medical history and medication list with your prescriber.
How should it be stored?
Check your label: many flavored liquids are refrigerated. Shake well before each dose. Store troches at room temperature unless your label says otherwise. Compounding lets us prepare Sildenafil in the exact strength your prescriber orders, in forms such as capsule, tablet, cream. Flavoring helps pets and people take it more easily. We can also leave out dyes, fillers or allergens when needed.
