What is Oxytocin?

At Pharmacy on the Park, Oxytocin is compounded in our pharmacy from a prescription, in the strength and form your prescriber orders.
How does it work?
Mimics the hormone oxytocin, which is involved in bonding, social behavior and sexual response.
What is it used for?
A naturally occurring hormone prescribed off-label as rapid-dissolve tablets, most often for sexual health and bonding. Your prescriber determines the use, dose and monitoring.
How is it used?
- Rapid-dissolve tablet. Rapid-dissolve tablets are placed under the tongue and allowed to melt. Avoid eating or drinking until fully dissolved.
- Troche. Troches are placed between the cheek and gum and allowed to dissolve slowly. Avoid eating or drinking until fully dissolved.
Follow the directions on your label. The strength, amount and schedule are set by your prescriber.
Side effects and safety
Commonly reported: Headache, nausea, flushing. Call your prescriber or us about any reaction that concerns you.
Who should use caution?
Pregnancy. Share your full medical history and medication list with your prescriber.
How should it be stored?
Store troches at room temperature unless your label says otherwise. Always follow the storage directions and beyond-use date on your label, and keep medications out of reach of children and pets.
Why is it compounded?
Compounding lets us prepare Oxytocin in the exact strength your prescriber orders, in forms such as rapid-dissolve tablet, troche. We can also leave out dyes, fillers or allergens when needed.
